
Dr. COry Heaton
Extension Wildlife Specialist, Clemson University
Cory Heaton is an Extension Wildlife Specialist with Clemson Coopera tive Extension Service. He has 22 years’ experience in conduc ting wildlife and fisheries research in South Carolina. Cory specializes in wildlife management, recreational fisheries management and aquatic weed control. He has a B.S. in Wildlife and Fisheries Biology, a M.S. in Forestry and Natural Resources, and a Ph. D. in Wildlife and Fisheries Biology from Clemson University. He is an active member of the South Carolina Aqua tic Plant Management Society, and has served as a Director and President of the society. He has served as a Director for the South Carolina Vegetation Management Association. He is very active in bobwhite quail management throughout the southern US, and serves on the technical committee for the South Carolina Bobwhite Initiative. Much of his work has focused on nuisance wildlife issues, and he has served as the Chair for the Wild Hog Task Force. He has led numerous scientific studies focused on reducing white-tailed deer damage to SC’s agronomic crops. Cory is also a certified crop advisor, and has served as a Director and Chair for the South Carolina Certified Crop Advisors Association. In recent years, he has worked closely with SCDNR, Audubon Society, and Clemson Regulatory Service to develop the SC Solar Habitat Certification Program. These days he spends much of his time investigating establishment and management practices for pollinator habitat.
